James Penney (1910–1982) was an American painter, muralist, and educator. Born in St. Joseph, Missouri, he is known for his Modernist genre, landscape, botanics easel and mural painting. His work includes abstract expressionist color field studies with vertical forms painted in wide vertical and horizontal brush strokes.
